LADIES XC NEWS
NoEAA X-Country Championships Heaton Park Saturday 27th January 2007 Pete Budd
In the ladies race Tessa Walker, in her first ever Northern Championships, ran well for 22nd place. Although somewhat disappointed with her performance, I’m sure with her ability Tessa can build on this and go from strength to strength. Good to see Trish Sloane back in our colours again after a brief interlude and as always gave 100% effort to finish in 65th place. The effervescent Estelle Malm just couldn’t stop smiling afterwards and following her 98th position who could blame her. A fine effort and definitely one for the future.
Jane Bilton, another of Stan Curran's blossoming new young talents, had a solid run in 202nd despite not relishing the heavy conditions. Not far behind in 242nd was the ever dependable Julie Laverock. Julie is an absolute credit to this club for her perseverance and dedication and long may she be so.
Red Rose XC League Rossendale Saturday 16th December 2006
Due to the weather during the past week the third race in this series took place in what many have agreed were some of the muddiest conditions in recent years.
The ladies race was won by Candice Leah (Clayton) in 22.05. She was pushed all the way by Katie Ingram (Horwich) in 22.37 and Salford's Rachel Jones in third (23.03). Julie Laverock ran a good race in the muddy conditions to finish 40th in 32.12.
South East Lancs XC League Broad Oak, Ashton Saturday 11th November 2006
Congratulations to Tessa Walker on winning the second race on the South East Lancs calendar. She won comfortably in a time of 31.33. Pity there was no team support.
National XC Relays Mansfield Saturday 4th November 2006
Salford Harriers fielded a strong ladies team at the weekend in Mansfield. They came in 22nd overall in a time of 33.32.
They were led off by Tessa Walker (10.49) followed by Ann Buckley (10.39), who has featured in many of the ladies teams in the past. The team was brought home by Estelle Malm (12.04).
Red Rose XC League Chesham, Bury Saturday 28th October 2006
After her solid performance last Saturday in Birmingham and her win the Waddington 10k last Sunday, it was nice to see a gutsy performance from Rachel Jones. She was second lady to Carly Needham of Rochdale, 21.29 to 20.44. Julie Laverock ran 29.39 and keeps on improving.
Manchester Area XC League Heaton Park Saturday 14th October 2006
With the fell relays and South East Lancs. League all taking place on the same day there was a reasonable turn out at an unseasonably warm Heaton Park for the first fixture of the newly expanded Manchester area XC League.
The girls took advantage of the fine weather with good runs from Estelle Malm, Anneka Sanders and Julie Laverock. Following on from a fine performance last weekend at Witton Park the ladies race was won by Tessa Walker. Well done girls!
