Welfare & Safeguarding

"Everyone in Athletics has a part to play in safeguarding children and adults at risk, England Athletics aims to create an environment where everyone involved in athletics and running feels safe and welcome to enable them to be the best they can be."

Emma Davenport, Head of Clubs and Participation (England Athletics Safeguarding Lead)

Safeguarding in sport is the process of protecting children and adults from harm by providing a safe space in which they can participate. Key to child safeguarding is spreading the message about keeping children safe and building a culture of always acting in the best interest of all children.

Welfare covers everything from safeguarding and protecting children and youngsters, anti-bullying and ensuring good coaching practices.

England athletics requires all clubs meet a minimum standard for safeguarding and welfare, in order to meet there responsibility to safeguard and protect both children and adults. This includes following a code of conduct around acceptable and unacceptable behaviours, and having procedures to follow for dealing with child protection concerns and other welfare issues.

At Salford Harriers & AC we aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all to help athletes be the best they can and all club members have a part to play in making that happen.

Our Welfare Officers have training from England Athletics and are here to help - Amy Coleman and Rob Clarke can be contacted and will treat any matters raised with sensitivity and confidentiality.

Remember if you think a child  or other athlete is in immediate danger or requires medical attention, you should contact the emergency services on 999. You can also report immediate concerns about children to the NSPCC on 0808 800 5000.
